IDH
IDH brings together businesses, governments, investors and communities to make agricultural markets more sustainable and inclusive. The global organisation aims to drive positive impact by convening, co-creating and co-funding programmes, advising on policy, and innovating and implementing interventions to transform markets.
In 2019, IDH launched the Roadmap on Living Wages and the ALDI SOUTH Group joined as part of IDH's Living Wage Steering Committee. Companies participating in the working group are monitoring the implementation of the IDH Roadmap. Together they have identified five steps to make progress with their supply chain partners: Identify the living wage, measure the living wage gaps, review these calculations, close the living wage gaps and share their learnings within the working group.
In 2023, ALDI UK commited as one of nine major retailers in the UK to close living wage gaps of banana workers in their international supply chains.The basis is the IDH Roadmap on Living Wages and tools such as the IDH Salary Matrix to calculate the living wage gap. They are also collaborating with other initiatives, suppliers, manufacturers and stakeholders including NGOs, certifiers, trade unions and relevant standards organisations such as Fairtrade International and Rainforest Alliance . The UK retailer coalition strives to close the living wage gap in 100% of their banana supply chains by the end of 2027.
